Hydro Anthracite: A filter medium in times of coal phase-out
As a result of the coal phase out in germany, the long-established anthracite coal from Ibbenbühren in the northwest of Germany, is gradually no longer available. The use of new qualities with changed properties from other regions of the world, may require adaptation in filter operation, since important process parameters - such as filtration properties and backwashing behavior - are influenced.
In order to avoid corresponding effects on the filtration process and to guarantee constant operational safety, TER Chemicals offers with the product TERcarbon N a high quality hydro anthracite of consistent quality, which is almost identical in physical properties compared to the quality of Ibbenbüren.
The special quality of this filter anthracite is characterized by the bulk density and hardness of the material, which have an indispensable influence on the economy of the filter process. While the bulk density is decivise for the filter velocity of the water to be filtered, the hardness of the filter medium is desivise for the resistance to backwashing: the harder the material, the higher its resistance to abrasion.
TERcarbon N corresponds to the usual the bulk density of 700 ± 30 kg / m³ and has a hardness of 3-4 Mohs, which enables the usual continuation of the filter operation under cpnstant conditions.
TERcarbon N also offers other advantages:
- No conversion of the existing filter systems
- Continued excellent throughput speed compared to higher bulk weights
- Outstanding seperation of the filter layers during backwashing
- Low backwash losses
- Due to their lower weight (17.5 kg), 25 liter bags contribute to a higher user friendliness
- Meets the requirement of NSF 60 and DIN EN 12909 as a filter medium for the treatment of water for human use
Areas of application:
- Drinking water treatment
- Desalination
- Wastewater treatment
- Swimming pool water treatment
- Process water treatment
TERcarbon N is available in consitent quality in the usual grain sizes Type I: 0.6 -1.6 mm and Type II:
1.4 -2.5 mm in user-friendly 25 liter bags.
